DevLog #1 - Time to start Destroying!

Let's start Destroying!

What exactly is "Time to Destroy!"?

Time To Destroy! is a couch co-op, score-based game where you try to get as much points by destroying everything! Everyone loves destruction. Don't try to hide it! We'll be working on the game for the coming twelve weeks(!!!) and we'll be sharing our progress throughout!

Let's share some of our thoughts.

What about the FUN Factor?

Can we make Time to Destroy! fun? That's a question every developer asks themselves. The answer to this is... we believe we can make it fun. We love destruction and so do others (and don't try to deny it)! People love seeing explosions, things falling apart and more.

Choosing the Engine.

Choosing an engine is one of the hardest choices. Each come with pros and cons. As destruction is an important factor for our game, we've made a simple prototype in each, testing out a possible destruction.

Unity

Unreal

Day or Night Scene?

Day or Night has quite the effect on the gameplay. We've had quite the discussion about this and had plans about both. But... due to some difficulties in planning a prototype to test it, we had already come up with a decision. Having a day scene would lead to less issues and allows us to put more effort onto other aspects of the game.

Physics or Animations for Destruction?

For Destruction, we would rather use physics of the objects instead for a natural feel. Animations would feel forced and repetitive. With Physics however, you can have less repetition, this would also require less work on the objects itself as everything would be handled by the engine.

Abilities for the Players?

- We love dashing around, do you?

- We love smacking objects, but what about cops? Oh, and don't forget your friends!

- We love power-ups that make us temporarily stronger, we hope you do too!

The Camera Angle

The camera has been heavily discussed to find a good balance between seeing the environment (zones) and the players.
We have settled with a diagonal, slightly tilted camera angle that we will be tweaking along the way. You'll see more about it in the next DevLog!

End of #1!

Thank you for checking out our first DevLog and I hope you'll enjoy the upcoming progress as much as we do!
You'll be destroying with your friends in no time!

See you destroying!
